Post-Brexit customs formalities

The Port of Boulogne-Calais is the first border crossing point since the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union.

Since 1 January 2021, trade in goods between the UK and the EU has been governed by WTO rules, which means that controls have been reinforced. In addition, the activity of the Boulogne Veterinary and Phytosanitary Border Inspection Service (SIVEP) has increased due to the new controls to be carried out on trade in goods and animals between the United Kingdom and Europe, even though no customs duties are to be applied under the terms of the agreement concluded at the end of December*.
